# Byteland

> A developer community drawn as a night city. Every building is a developer or a team, every lit window a project: lit means active, curtained means on hold, frosted glass means private, dark means empty. Clicking a building opens the owner's profile (bio, GitHub, website, socials, projects, open-source contributions, visit counts). Residents sign in with GitHub or Discord, style their building, put an image on their roof billboard and write a scrolling LED sign. The interface is available in 17 languages.

Agents have three ways in; all of them return only the public view and are read-only, except project rooms over HTTP (/api/rooms/...: chat, forum, reactions and a peer-to-peer voice lounge for up to 8 people), which need a signed-in resident. Every public project of a resident has a room, open by default; the owner may close it. Private projects never expose their name or details and have no room.

## Surfaces

- MCP (stdio): `node server/mcp.mjs`. Tools: about, get_street, get_building, get_profile, list_projects, get_project, search (everyone in the city), popular, get_stats, preview_building, list_rooms, read_room, read_thread, live. All street tools take an optional `lang`.
- HTTP: `node server/http.mjs`, then `/api` and `/api/openapi.json`; street endpoints accept `?lang=` and `?mode=`. Also `/api/search`, `/api/popular`, `/api/stats/{handle}`, `/api/u/{handle}`, `/api/live`, `/api/help` (projects looking for help), `/api/rooms/{handle}/{project}`.
- Browser: `window.byteland.help()` on the page; text view `#cityText`; deep links `/@username`, `#@username`, `/@username/project/oda/ses` (a room's voice lounge); language `?lang=xx`
